The coaching

Deep enough to last. Defined enough to finish.

Deep-Change Coaching addresses the patterns that have been plaguing you for years, and still commits to a specific goal within a reasonable, defined timetable.

What good coaching already does well

Classic coaching is focused and goal-oriented. You want to start a business and you're stuck? A good coach helps you get unstuck, find a strategy, and move on with your life.

Many coaches now bring in tools from mindfulness and CBT, meditation, cognitive techniques for reinforcing the behaviour you want more of, and so on. These are worthwhile and necessary, and they're good tools for getting there. I use them too.

Where Deep-Change goes further

Those tools tend to work on the most immediate layer of a problem: the specific obstacle in front of you right now. Deep-Change Coaching goes a few layers deeper, to the patterns underneath, using the tools of schema therapy.

Say you have trouble following through on commitments at work, at home, or both. By the end of our work together you'll be able to follow through on the situation that brought you in. But the change doesn't stay contained there. It spreads out to other areas of your life, and it holds up over time.

The process

A clear path from the surface down to the root.

01

Intake

We start by talking, a lot, about the thoughts and feelings that show up when you find yourself stuck. We're after the texture of the problem, not just its shape.

02

Goal & plan

We work out a clear goal and a realistic plan to reach it, typically around 20–30 sessions, usually weekly. You'll always know what we're aiming at and roughly when we'll get there.

≈ 20–30 weekly sessions

03

Assessment

You complete a psychological survey that identifies your schemas, the negative patterns acquired in childhood and reinforced across your life, and the modes, the behaviours you've developed to compensate for them.

04

The work

From there we go back to the source and address it directly, not with tricks to push through resistance, but by removing what made the resistance necessary in the first place.

What changes

When you treat the root cause instead of the symptom, you don't just solve today's problem. Many of the challenges simply stop reappearing, and when they do return, you'll know exactly why, which makes them far easier to handle.

Instead of driving around the potholes, together we fill them in, so you can drive straight ahead.

Begin

Bring me the pattern that keeps coming back.

We'll start with a first conversation to see whether Deep-Change Coaching is the right approach for it.
